It is a very worrying and uncertain time. We would like to reassure our local community that we Via Wings will be doing all we can to help. We have already provided food bags for 85 local families and we have extended that to those who are vulnerable, elderly, sick, living in poverty and self-isolating at this time.
If you know anyone who you feel may be affected and/or vulnerable, please find our contact details at the bottom of this page.
Via Wings is a distribution centre covering Dromore, Dromara & Kinallen and we are working closely alongside other food-banks and agencies in Banbridge, Lisburn and surrounding areas. We will be preparing emergency food (& toiletry) packages which will be distributed by designated staff and volunteers and be left at their homes or in a designated area. We will be providing photographic ID and fully observing health guidelines regarding distancing measures.
We are working together with other local organisations, food banks, churches & schools to ensure people in need, get what they need. We have the advantage of being one of the only charities in the area of having a chilled van and we are happy to help other organisations where possible. Via Wings can also provide support in the form of pastoral care telephone calls. We have a bank of volunteers from outside our organisation that have offered to help when the time comes.
We are accepting all food donations. If any businesses are in a position that they can donate large amounts please get in touch and we will work with you. We have access to chilled transport to ensure the freshness of our food deliveries.
Food donation baskets have been set up in Tesco/SuperValu/ EuroSpar, Lidl & Vivo Essential and will be collected daily. We are incredibly grateful to all these retailers for their amazing & continued support and all their hard work at this time.
For those who would like to offer monetary donations we have set up a JustGiving page as a response to public demand. Everything raised will go towards supplies for people in need at this time. Money raised through this page will be used to purchase food to restock our centre. We have been designated as a priority charity with the Fareshare organisation which allows us to buy surplus food at a much-reduced price. We would also anticipate supporting our local retailers as much as possible.
Please be kind & sensible. There are a lot of people including NHS staff, retailers, volunteers etc. that are working really hard to help. If everyone does a little bit and takes care of the people around them together we can achieve a lot. Be aware that older people may not have access to internet, Facebook etc. and often don’t like to ask for help.
Currently Wellington House is closed to the public, but our staff are working as ‘key workers’ to deliver our promise and to help as much as we can in our community. For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us. We are checking emails frequently on a daily basis, but please be patient as it is such a busy time, our staff & volunteers are doing their very best.
We are currently operating our distribution days as Monday, Wednesday and Friday. However, these may be subject to change as the situation progresses. Please check our social media pages on a regular basis for updates.
In unity lets meet needs and change lives. Together we can do so much more.
