Set in the heart of Dromore and above the charity shop Hope & Soul, The Olive Branch is our cosy coffee shop. Our coffee shop serves a range of yummy homemade traybakes and our scones are made fresh every morning. We also serve a small variety of breakfasts and lunches; toast, egg, bacon, sandwiches, sausage rolls etc.
We proudly promote ‘Suspended Coffees’. This is an advance payment for a cup of tea or coffee for someone who needs it, no matter why. It’s more than just a cup of coffee, it is someone reaching out and extending kindness. It can provide physical comfort, start a conversation and create a sense of belonging. That’s the ethos at Via Wings; we are a group of people extending a helping hand to the members of our community and the Olive Branch provides a safe space for people when they want to reach out and break isolation. Anyone can avail of our ‘Suspended Coffees’. Just lift a key at the top of the stairs and drop it into our honesty pot when paying the bill.
Via Wings have recently partnered with Fareshare and Tesco Bridgewater in a campaign to reduce food waste. We currently go to Tesco twice a week and collect bread and food waste items. These items are used in our coffee shop for our “Free bread giveaway” each Tuesday and Thursday morning, or turned into meals for our freezer ministry. Like the coffee, it’s more than a free piece of bread; it’s an extension of kindness and a chance for people to ask for help.
The coffee shop is run by both staff and volunteers. Most of the time our volunteers are learning on the job, so please be patient with us all! After all, these lovely people give up their time to be here and serve their community. We are able to provide placement opportunities in the coffee shop. Currently we have students working up voluntary hours for Boys’ Brigade and Duke of Edinburgh, and a young person on placement for his college course. The coffee shop is an excellent space for young people with learning difficulties, as it is a relaxed environment.
The coffee shop is open 6 days a week and is a welcoming space for a coffee date or a place to relax. We can provide afternoon tea on request and there are catering packages available. The coffee shop can also be hired for functions. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information regarding catering, hire or volunteering opportunities.
